The Republican Party's tradition has been war, death penalty, and corporate power. This tradition has attacked segregation, human rights, civil rights throughout the last century, and we can watch this conservatism happen in this one.
One feature of the Republican Party is the twisting of Christian values. The GOP says that it is pro-life, yet they will uphold the death penalty and military spending, as if humans outside wombs are less significant than those inside wombs. They dismiss the obvious contradiction, however, or they have not read the Holy Bible, the Gospels in particular, to know that hypocrisy is the "Leaven of the Pharisees," as Jesus put it in one of his sermons. It is impossible to value life with the left hand and take a life with the right hand.
The Republican Party has not valued democracy, either. The Nixon Administration tried to sabotage the Democratic Party by wiretapping the Democratic Party headquarters at the Watergate Hotel. Although their plans did not bear fruit, the Supreme Court sabotaged an election in 2000, when it selected President Bush to be the next President of the United States.
The GOP is America's Taliban. It is America's fascist.
